Types Of Dental Implants

Dental implants are synthetic teeth that are implanted onto the jaw to replace lost or damaged teeth. They are the best form of teeth replacement because of their natural look and feel. Most times a patient even forgets that he/she is wearing implants. The best dental implants also improve functionality within the mouth. If a person was not able to eat or chew something because of a bad tooth, he/she is now able to do so thanks to dental implants. Dental implants also improve a persons speech. Missing teeth or gaps in the mouth can make a person not be able to pronounce some words properly. This leads to impaired speech which in turn leads to low self confidence. There are many other uses for dental implants. It is important to note that there is more than one type of dental implants. There are generally for main types of dental implants. These are root, plate, subperiosteal and intramucosal.

Root dental implants are the first option used if a patient undergoing the procedure has enough space in terms of width and depth in the jaw bone for the implants to be fixed. These implants are also known as screw implants. This type involves the exposure of the jaw, the fixture of the implants and the closing of the incision lines. Plate dental implants are very similar to root implants except that they are used when the jaw of the patient is too narrow, and grafting is not suitable. This kind of implant is flat and long. Another type of implant is subperiosteal. This type of implant is suitable for patients who have extensive bone loss and cannot undergo both root and plate dental implant surgery. Intramucosal implants are not implants on their own. They are mechanisms on which false teeth are secured. One subtype of dental implants is immediate load dental implant which is an implant placed immediately after the damaged tooth is removed.
